Brookvale in Bloom 2025 – Rain Can’t Stop the Celebration!
A little rain couldn’t dampen the joy and colour of this year’s Brookvale in Bloom celebration, which took place on Sunday 20th July after one of the warmest and driest growing seasons the event has seen.
The Mayor of Basingstoke & Deane, Councillor Colin Phillimore, dressed perfectly for the occasion in a bright floral shirt, joined residents at Brookvale Village Hall to present trophies and celebrate the community’s fantastic gardening efforts at a special prizegiving tea.
Now in its 16th year, Brookvale in Bloom has become a cherished tradition in the local calendar. One dedicated entrant prizewinner, took part every single year since it began. They were joined by one of the event’s youngest-ever prizewinners.
Cathy Williams, the Committee’s Treasurer, shared her thoughts on how far the competition has come:
“The competition has established itself as a well-loved tradition in the community and has even prompted adoption and maintenance of some previously unloved common spaces into areas of loveliness for everybody to enjoy. We’re already planning next year’s competition with the addition of some new categories. From plant pot to patch – there will be something for everybody!”
A big thank you to everyone who took part, helped organise, or simply cheered on from the sidelines. We can’t wait to see what blossoms next year!”
